BULLYING & SCHOOL VIOLENCE DIFFERENCE MAKER SUMMIT This program will give student leaders a voice, challenge them to think differently and empower them to actually create a useful plan to be the difference on their individual campuses. Being a student leader today involves more than popularity, more than putting on rallies and dances, it's about identifying critical issues facing each of them, their peers, their communities and schools and brainstorming to determine workable solutions – it's about student leadership. About TEEN TRUTH: BULLYING & SCHOOL VIOLENCE
TEEN TRUTH is North America's premiere student assembly experience, and the purpose of this customized session is to challenge student leaders to have a positive impact on others everyday, in order to make school a safe, healthier place. The presentation provides students and advisers with a critical understanding of bullying, raises an awareness of the social problems that can escalate into school violence, and teaches ways of preventing bullying in school. The presentation will include a short film clip of the Columbine shooting. We want all students to be comfortable as they experience this event and given the sensitive nature of the presentation encourage you to talk with your group prior to attending the session. This evening session is optional so if for any reason you do not feel comfortable attending with your student(s) in this activity you may elect to be on your own. |

Bill Bond Bill will present to student leaders a powerful presentation titled, Words Hurt the Heart – School is not always safe and secure for a large number of students, however to learn at high levels, students must feel safe and secure. Many students face humiliation from the words that are addressed to them by peers and teachers. Ridicule and bullying can make school a nightmare for many student victims. Bullying can be physical. However, the vast majority of school bullying is not overt violence, but covert social ridicule. Bill will also present a workshop to activity advisers titled, Lessons Learned From Responding to a School Crisis – On December 1, 1997, a freshman student shot eight fellow students at Heath High School. Three girls died and two others suffered paralyzing injuries. As principal, Bond had to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy. This presentation covers the details of responding to a school crisis, including gaining control of a shooter, caring for injured students, handling emotional parents and an aggressive media, and healing the school. |
